AMI STUDENT SUCCESS

CoSAAMI 2019

Two plenary, four keynote speakers, fifty-six presentations, and eighteen posters were presented at CoSAAMI’19.  All the papers were blind-peer reviewed by three reviewers and 50 papers were selected to be published in the IOP Conference Series: Materials Science and Engineering, Volume 655, October 2019. You can view the volume here: https://iopscience.iop.org/issue/1757-899X/655/1.

Only the 26 AMI student papers were adjudicated during the event.  The five adjudicators who judged the student presentations and posters had some tough decisions to make due to the high quality of submissions received. Dr Jaco van der Walt from NECSA provided a synopsis of the submissions and the following criteria guided them in their selection:

  • Did the presenter or the producer of his\her poster clearly describe the Scientific/industrial background? Were the aims (i.e. research question) clear in the presentation or poster?
  • Did the presenter or poster focus on the aims and objectives in alignment with the literature review without too much emphasis on the literature review itself?
  • Did the presenter\poster describe the experimental/modelling/analytical ability in enough detail? And were the results well interpreted, and was it well concluded?
  • In regards to the presentation entries, the adjudicators also gave points for audience interaction, engagement and the use of audio visual aids.
